Hassle free and affordable website design. We will create your own website at a fraction of the normal cost.
Ok, let's assume we've finished the design stage and you're happy with the it. Now we need to get your website properly online...
First of all you'll need your very own domain name (sometimes referred to as the 'URL'. That's the part that goes www.YourCompanyName.com or similar). You may have one already, which is fine, we will advise you what you will need to do to get it working. If you don't, we will include that free of charge and ensure it is correctly configued for you!
Next we will... well do you really want me to go into details? Suffice to say we will do everything necessary to allocate the proper hosting solution and get your website published to the web.
Do you want to use emails?
It's not necessary but we would recommend having at least one email address to let potential customers contact you at their convenience. Of course our solution allows you to have your own email addresses. In fact you can have up to five separate email addresses if you want them.
What is 'website hosting' and how do DPS Websites manage it?
All the data files that hold the information for your website need to be stored somewhere that can be accessed by the world wide web. These are called servers. DPS Websites rent our own dedicated server to store the information for our customers and make it available to the web. For more information on website hosting please see Wikipedia: Website Hosting.
What if the server breaks down?
Our agreement with the server provider states that at all times we have a back-up server that is independent of the primary server. In the event of a breakdown the second server will continue normal operation. We have been using the same company for a number of years now and the current guaranteed 'up time' is stated as being 99.999% and we have no reason to doubt this figure.
If DPS Websites register a domain name for me, who owns it?
All domain names we register are registered by us on your behalf. You will have ultimate ownership but we will manage the administration of it for as long as you wish. Should you want to take ownership of the domain name yourself then of course we will immediately pass this on to you. We have no claim whatsoever over the domain ownership. We will provide a written guarantee of this. Our only request is a common sense one; should you decide not to continue with our service past the 30 day trial period we will keep ownership of the name or ask you for the domain registration fee.
I've never used emails before, is it difficult?
Emails are very easy to use so don't be concerned. If necessary we can help walk you through how to use them. Our email solution is very simple to use.
How long will it be before everyone can see our new website?
Once we go ahead and publish your website it will normally be available to the world within the hour. Sometimes it can take longer to propagate around the networks and the times normally stated are 24 to 48 hours.
My website is online but how do I get it into search engine results?
This is a very common question and one which doesn't have a simple answer! Each search engine is individual in how it displays search results. The art of getting websites to show in the search engines is a very hot topic which we couldn't possibly cover here, but you can be assured that during the design process we have done a few clever things with the code to ensure your site stands the best possible chance of getting listed. This is called Search Engine Optimisation (SEO - Wikipedia: SEO) and some companies pay tens of thousands of pounds every year to ensure their sites are found. We actually started out as an SEO service and we therefore include a free basic SEO package as standard in every site we build! Each and every site is also submitted to Google (and others) and we also add sitemaps and robot files as standard. That may not mean anything to you (and why should it!) but what it does mean is that whilst we cannot guarantee any results, we have made every possible effort to ensure it gets listed and is seen by as many people as possible.
Important tip: If you already have a domain name registered make sure you put a temporary holding page with at least one page of plain text with relevent details of your business and services. This will really help you get listed once you have a fully developed site.
